Since December 2018, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has been conducting the National Eligibility Test (NET) for Indian nationals aspiring to the posts of assistant professor and junior research fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges. This qualifying test consists of two papers of which Paper I—General Paper on Teaching & Research Aptitude—is mandatory for all candidates. The paper is designed to test “reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness”. The test ranges over a variety of subjects not easily available in standard text books.
