This book is a good effort at highlighting the important features of the Indian Constitution. Each aspect is fully discussed, and coloured portions catch your eye to focus on special facts. The discussion of topics of political interest that occupy the public mind gives a different dimension and value to the book. It is a book worth reading to get the nuances of the Constitution with thorough understanding of the Indian political system.

The comprehensive coverage of the Constitution of India in this book is lucid and systematic. There are interesting details and up-to-date facts. The discussion of topics relevant to the political system adds to the overall worth of the book. And the language has been kept simple, making it all easy to understand.

Spectrum's Indian Polity is exhaustive and well researched. It covers not just the Indian Constitution but also its working and development over the years in the context of the political system in India. Compilation of information, especially in the chapters on separation of powers, statutory and regulatory bodies, and the working of the Indian Constitution, will be very helpful for students as well as academicians. The flow of the language is easy to understand and the discussion columns at the end of chapters enhance the book's relevance today. Perhaps, there could have been more discussion of topics in the chapter on Federalism and a critical analysis of how the local government is actually working in India. Overall, I can say that it's been long since such a comprehensive compilation of information on Indian Polity in a single book has been available.

This is an excellent book designed to give a thorough understanding of Indian Polity and its dynamics. The book provides precise, systematic, and practical explanations on various aspects of Indian Polity. The special feature of the book is that issues of topical interest are discussed at the end of each chapter. Besides being useful for preliminary and mains, the comprehensive and analytical approach of the book makes it very useful for preparation for the Personality Test of the Civil Services Examination. In a nutshell, it is a must-read book on Indian polity for aspirants preparing for any competitive exams.

Precise, well-researched, relevant, comprehensive. These are some of the features of Spectrum’s ‘Indian Polity’ that stood out for me. All the topics of Indian polity are covered in the book in a detailed manner. The Discussion part given at the end of each chapter is very useful for Mains answer writing. The Supreme Court Judgments, Quotations of Important Political Thinkers, examples from history, etc., make the book very helpful for note making and answer writing.

Aspirants are usually aware of only Spectrum’s ‘A Brief History of Modern India’ but they should give a chance to their other books as well, especially this book on Indian polity.

I am sure this will also become a favourite of UPSC aspirants.

Spectrum’s Indian Polity is another interesting venture of the Spectrum Books Pvt. Ltd. for CSE aspirants. The content is drafted with a logical coherance, in a legible format and simple language. The laconic points together with historical background make the subject easier to grasp. The tables provide prelims-ready content. The thoroughly analysed discussions at the end of each chapter can act as fodder for mains. The features of the Constitution are made explicit via an exam centric lens in this book. I myself had been the reader of the renowned Spectrum’s Brief History of Modern India. Spectrum’s Indian Polity would prove to be another must-read for aspirants on their CSE journey.

Spectrum’s ‘A Brief History of Modern India’ is one of the most fundamental books for any aspirant during their journey of UPSC Preparation. The same held true for me. The manner in which the book gives succinct yet comprehensive coverage of all topics in a
well-organised manner makes it indispensable for both prelims and mains stage of the UPSC CSE exam.

The newly launched book ‘Solved Papers 2011–2022’ is another jewel of the Spectrum stable. The book gives in-depth analysis and answers of the Prelims General Studies Paper 1. The questions are divided according to the topics of syllabus which makes it even easier for the aspirants to prepare any topic based on the pattern of previous years’ questions. The pattern of UPSC Prelims changes every year, however, the importance and relevance of previous years’ question papers can’t be questioned. The book understands the challenge of explaining past questions with giving latest up-to-date information of related topics very well.

I am sure this will become a favourite among the aspirants just like many other books of Spectrum.

Brief History of Modern India is a must-read book for every civil service aspirant. I, myself, completely rely on Spectrum book for preparation of modern history. The book is written in a easy to understand language with proper thematic arrangement of different sections of modern history. In my personal opinion, it is the only book that is sufficient for both prelims and Mains. The books on Indian Polity and Science and Technology are also very informative, lucid and well-researched. On the whole, Spectrum publications was an integral part of my UPSC preparation.

Spectrum Books has published various books which are very essential for UPSC exam preparation. One of the books which I have personally read is the Brief History of Modern India. It has provided me deep insights in the topic and helped me to cover the subject in a comprehensive manner. Every aspirant should refer to this book during their UPSC journey. The most beautiful thing which I like about spectrum books is the way in which they update their content according to the demand of UPSC exam. The content is well researched and quite comprehensive which can help the aspirants in qualifying their dream exam.

I have seen and read some of Spectrum’s books and found them very informative. They are useful from the UPSC civil service exam point of view, especially for General Studies. The content is precise and quite up to date. I just glanced through their latest solved papers of GS 1. It has some good explanations and extra bits of information which Prelims candidates should find quite useful. I also found ‘UPSC CSE Decoded by Shilpi Mittal, IRS’, earlier known as Peel the UPSC CSE Onion, on how to approach the exam rather interesting.

Modern India by Spectrum is the best source for Modern History for UPSC CSE preparation

Borkar Suresh Liladharrao, Rank-658, CSE 2023

Spectrum’s brief history of modern India has now become a ‘must read’ with civil service exam candidates. But I found some of Spectrum’s other books also well researched and full of relevant information. Some of the books I think worth reading are Indian Polity, Developments in Science and Technology, Essays, and Geography. Their ‘UPSC CSE Decoded by Shilpi Mittal, IRS’ decodes the nature of the civil services exam, and it would be good reading for all aspirants.

Spectrum’s International Organisations, Conferences, and Treaties is a go-to book for civil service aspirants to get a grip over this subject.
It begins with a brief description of ‘terms and concepts’ which is the fulcrum to understand IR.
The brief background about the international organisations enhances the conceptual clarity for the aspirants.
The content is well classified, arching across the different geopolitical spheres.
The concisely drafted subheadings—objectives, structure, and activities—serve as the one-stop solution for prelims.
The analytical perspective of key organisations, like the UN, provides fodder points for Main examination.
The book incorporates updated reports and the outcomes of major conferences in the news, hence proves to be indispensable for CSE preparation.
